Cinder Released! And enter to win a Kindle Fire 6

cinder: a sexy shifter fantasy romance by jessica aspen

When curvy Cinderella meets a charming reluctant alpha, can he save her from a stepmother who means murder?

Cinder Vandeburg dreams getting away from her overbearing stepmother and getting a real job—one that pays. When her stepsisters are finalists in a teen modeling competition at a chic resort in the beautiful mountains of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, her step mother offers her an opportunity: prove herself a competent personal assistant and earn not only a stellar referral, but a bona-fide introduction to the movers and shakers of the modeling world. This is Cinder’s chance at freedom but as usual, her stepmother seems to find fault in everything she does—even when she sends her to seduce suspected modeling judge, Aiden Burdock.

Aiden is no modeling judge. He’s a tour guide with a pack of bachelor wolves depending on him to rustle up quality clients and keep their business afloat. But Aiden never wanted to be an alpha. He dreams of freedom and running wild in the hills. Having six…no seven…now eight wolves depending on him for leadership and jobs is more than he counted on when he fled pack expectations in Colorado. But his alpha tendencies can’t be ignored and when he sees curvy Cinder being treated as the runt of the litter, he lies and says he’s a judge to get her away from her malicious boss.

Now Aiden is faced with how to tell Cinder he’s just a working stiff, like her, and a wolf shifter to boot. As Aiden and Cinder’s fairy godmother build up her self esteem and she starts falling in love with a man of secrets, Cinder’s stepmother is determined one of her daughters will win the modeling competition. Even if it means she has to go all the way—and permanently eliminate the competition.

Lions and wolves and bears, oh my.

Wrestling with a Round Robin

Moonday Mania

a blog for…flying between the pages

Today, at some point, on Selena Laurence’s facebook page, you will discover a story.

Not just any story.

This one is a Facebook Round Robin written by some fabulous romance authors, and it is going to fly from Selena’s blog on Monday, all the way to Holley Trent’s blog on Friday. I’m Thursday’s Child, so you’ll see my piece then. And, I’ll be posting the sections on my Facebook page as they come up. Oh! And there are prizes, of course, so you get to enter for those as well on my facebook page and all the other authors pages as well.

We decided to write the story in advance, that way none of us had to worry about getting our section on a day when life fell apart. Which seems to be happening to me a lot. I’ll be blogging about that on Thursday when I give my paranormal release update on Prince by Blood and Bone. Writing it ahead of time meant that I still only had one day to get my piece done so I could send it to Holley Trent.

It was a little scary at first, but I had to get my section done, no matter that I wasn’t sure where the story was going. I knew where it had started and I could see the threads twisting through the pages. Time to take three author’s story and make it my own. Then, despite where I thought it should go I had to hand it off to Holley. Oh, the worry! Oh the concern! Would she pick up my threads and take them where they should “ahem” go?

I won’t know until Friday because, like you, I haven’t seen Holley’s section.

I think Holley had the toughest portion of the job—making the story gel at the end. I realized this when I got the first three pieces of the story. Each author had added a new twist, and I needed to get them into a place where Holley could pick it up and wrap it up. Especially since our sections aren’t too long. We’re all used to having a lot of time to develop a plot and this was only about a page and a half. No space for deep thinking or long term plots. The action needed to take place now, and with romance that can be tough.

So check out Selena’s Facebook page HERE and read Monday’s post. Tuesday you can read Lisa Swallow’s section, and Wednesday is Rebecca Raisin. Mine is on Thursday and our finale is Friday with Holley Trent. And of course you’ll be able to find them all on my page https://www.facebook.com/JessicaAspenAuthor. Have fun and Happy Holidays!

The Story of a Girl (And Her Spirit Guide)

Thursdays Bite

We’re in the thick of my paranormal guest authors and on to my prolific Colorado Romance Writer chaptermate, Holley Trent. I was first exposed to Holley’s hot contemporary romance, My Nora, at a writer’s retreat and couldn’t wait for it to be published. Since then she’s published many more books and now I’m excited to see her branch out into my favorite genre, paranormal romance. Take it away, Holley!

Marcia—the weirdo heroine from my novel Love by Premonition has a spirit guide named Erilyn. They have a pretty strained relationship. Marcia’s a psychic, but generally doesn’t want to be bothered with anything to do with that other plane of existence. In fact, she has a ghost phobia. Erilyn is, understandably, frustrated by Marcia because of the way spirit guides work. Of all people, Marcia should know better.

Common lore is that we meet with our chosen guides before our next incarnation and plot out the lessons we want to learn in that life. Our guides are silent guardians who steer us toward certain decisions that feed into those lessons. If you’re well enough in tune, supposedly, you can tell what their suggestions are. You feel it in your gut, in your skin, or down your spine when you’re right (or very, very wrong).

Because we don’t remember these pre-birth conferences, the bond between a person and their guide may be thready until something happens that makes them “come through” or else we seek them out.

I come from a line of women who seemed to always have one foot in the other realm. As a kid, I thought my grandmother was a bit loco when she’d say someone visited her in her sleep. This was the same woman who had an eerie prescience about things that should have been surprises. Pregnancies? Sicknesses? Kids sneaking out of the house? She knew.

(But, this was the same woman who’d always told me to never let a woman I didn’t trust touch my hair because she might take some and put “roots” on me.)

My mother has claimed to have spirits talk to her in her sleep and to have had some precognitive episodes.

Me? Let’s just say I’ve had enough run-ins with the weird and unexplainable that I’m becoming less of a skeptic as I age. (Try telling that to a therapist.) I’m pretty sure I’ve “met” my spirit guide. Her name, if I understood her correctly, is Candace.  She mostly hangs back, because like Marcia, I freak the hell out whenever there’s a spirit around. I try to tune in and listen whenever I’m having internal conflicts, but beyond that, she gives me space. Why? Well, there’s a part in the book where Erilyn brings Marcia’s late grandfather through. Grandfather or not, it’s unsettling for her, just like it was unsettling for me that night my grandmother popped in to say “howdy.”

Because Candace is far kinder than Erilyn, she doesn’t make the vessel Marcia is. And thank goodness, because my mind couldn’t take the constant chattering from Beyond.

This is how I got the spark of creativity for Love by Premonition. The outlandish things in that book are all grounded in reality. Or at least, my perception of it.

lovebypremonition200**Love By Premonition

The psychic didn’t go looking for love, but she should have seen it coming.

Marcia Andrews is a freelance psychic consultant. Sick of living hand to mouth, she accepts a contract with Raleigh Police. A new gang called The Cardinals is terrorizing The Triangle, and Marcia gives the department an edge in tracking them. Help that she is, one cop isn’t so keen on her involvement, and makes sure she knows it.

Detective Nat McCoy would rather see Marcia in his bedroom than the bullpen. The gorgeous Scotsman isn’t the typical chauvinist pig, though. He’s keeping a secret that even the psychic doesn’t anticipate.

A close encounter with a Cardinal’s bullet knocks Marcia off her game when the police need her most. She loses hours to trances and ghosts haunt her sleep. She can hardly function, and everything she thought she knew about playboy McCoy suddenly seems questionable. McCoy thinks he knows the cure for what ails her—him. But can she trust him?

Every Christmas Celebration is Unique

Merry Christmas and Happy Monday Mania!

snowmen nativity

Not everyone’s family is the same. No two Christmas celebrations are identical. No matter what the media would have you believe.

At our house we have two Christmas’s, Christmas Day with Jeff’s family and Christmas Eve with mine. Christmas with my family is  twenty plus people at the table and  two rounds of the rambunctious white elephant gift exchange topped off by the yule log (yum!).

Christmas at Jeff’s house is calmer. Only seven of us, sometimes a friend who has no family in town and individual presents. It’s calm and peaceful and we top it off with a traditional dinner at the table, candles and all. And desert varies. (I believe this year we are having pumpkin pie, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone sneaks in a chocolate cream pie too!)

Two different Christmas styles, but we love them both. Not every party can be a nutcracking free for all. We’d be exhausted! And what’s important for us is we get to spend it with family.

No matter what your family looks like, if it’s made up of the family you chose or the family who have to take you in, I wish you all a safe and happy holiday with the ones you love.

There have been some terrific Christmas blogs this year so take some time and make sure you’ve hit the best!

Start off with Jenny Hansen’s More Cowbell and check out all the Holiday Yum she’s had cooking all month. From candy’s to cookies, Jenny and her pals have it covered. Oh, and if you are into more than just recipes, scroll back through some of Jenny’s posts. She is a very funny gal and makes me LOL all the time!

Kristen Lamb is another funny gal who always has something informative to say, check out her Holiday Style Post HERE.

Lizzie T. Leaf has been celebrating December with the Wenches of Words. If you’d like some new reading this holiday, HERE is the link. My choice for Christmas reading is Holley Trent and her new novella Mrs. Roth’s Merry Christmas. Gotta love a paranormal Christmas!

And if you’ve stopped here, let me know what makes your Christmas unique? And yes, that really is my nativity set. How could I resist a snowmen nativity with jewels in their bellies? Could you?
