Happy Third of July!

Thursdays Bite

a non-paranormal holiday blog

Hello and happy 3rd of July! Tomorrow is the fourth and I’ll be celebrating with a BBQ and fireworks, of course! For those of you wondering what is happening to poor Cassie in the Tales of the Black Court, I’ll also be working hard on my fantasy romance, Broken Mirror, my Camp NaNoWriMo project for the month of July.

Caught in the Black Queen’s spell, ignorant of who she is and why she should hate the queen,  the only man who might tell Cassie the truth is the court trickster…and everyone knows he’s not a man to be trusted.

Writing fantasy romance can be slow, you have to build the world, create the characters, oh, and write a steamy, love story. But so far this one is rocketing along and I think it’s on target for early 2015 release. Yippee!

Today I’m sharing the Freedom to Read Blog Hop I discovered through my Triber feed. I haven’t done a blog hop in a while, and I’m not a participating author in this one, but I thought my readers might want the chance to meet some new authors and enter to win in the giveaway!

freedom to read giveaway hop july 2nd to 9thClick HERE to check out Stacy Claflin’s website and her fab boxed set Giveaway as well as find the list of participating authors. Then hop to all their websites and enter to win their fab prizes. What a terrific way to spend a holiday!

I still have room in the Camp NaNo Cabin that ML Guida and I are running. It’s not to late to join. In Camp Nano you set your own goal, so join us and get to writing that memoir, that novella, that best-seller! click HERE for the article on what we’re doing and the contact form to join.

And I had a stellar few days retreating with ML up at her real cabin in the mountains. I’m at 4773 words and counting! At this rate I will have a terrific rough draft of Broken Mirror by the end of the month.

My New Adult Gothic, Ghosts of Christmas Past is finished and is at the proofreader. Can’t wait to see get that back and get to formatting.

Newsletter readers: Stay tuned, my news letter will be out soon with details of how you can read Ghosts of Christmas Past, and my big plans for The Dark Huntsman’s Book Birthday in October.

Little Red Riding Wolf Teaser

Thursday’s Bite

a paranormal blog

It’s almost here!

The release day for Little Red Riding Wolf is on Saturday, February 18th for the PDF version. Other versions (kindle) will be available the following week.

So, just for fun, I’m including a brief excerpt from chapter one, when Red (our heroine and a werewolf) meets Evan (the forbidden human hero). Red is frustrated with her family’s refusal to see her as an adult and is ready to rebel.

Little Red Riding Wolf

Little Red Riding Wolf by Jessica Aspen

Little Red Riding Wolf

The ranger looked to be just under six foot, but that was tall compared to her petite five-foot two. Long and lean, he had the look of someone who spent a lot of time outdoors, hiking or maybe skiing.

He stepped forward and swept back his shaggybrown hair, revealed warm brown eyes. His face held that look. That look that a man gave a woman, open, appreciative, but a touch guarded.

She returned it with a bold appraising one of her own. He was just what she needed to distract her from her family issues.

He was hot, male, and a stranger.

And a little later we have Evan’s view of the encounter:

Without warning she’d lifted her head, seemed to sniff
the air. Her head swiveled and she looked at him. Found him
hidden, where he stood stunned in the shadows at the side of the
trail. Her eyebrows rose, dark pupils contracted in astonishing
golden eyes.
Excitement pumped danger through his veins.
His instincts took over. Held him completely still. Afraid of
startling her, like a wild creature. He held his arms down at his
sides and looked straight at her, non-threatening, barely able to
breathe.
Then her eyes warmed, and she’d smiled.
He’d let out his breath, and smiled back.
Even now, as tired as he was after chasing her up half-a-mountain,
he got hard as he remembered her looking at him.
Remembered the touch of her hand, soft and hesitant and as
lethal as lightning.

Hope you enjoyed it and are ready for the rest of the book! I had a tough time choosing an excerpt. (I suppose I should just give in and post hot excerpts and have a warning every time you enter the blog.) Leave your opinion in the comment box (but only if it’s a nice one!).

And don’t forget, every time you leave a comment here or on my killer blog tour be sure to register it on the Rafflecopter widget HERE on Paranormal Freebies News page. Your entries don’t count unless you enter them into the Rafflecopter widget!

Also Saturday is the big release day and Brinda Berry is throwing a Twitter party for me in celebration of  Little Red Riding Wolf’s big day! Find out the details HERE in her amazing blog detailing what and how to have a Twitter party. Don’t forget 5pm MST hashtag #ridingwolf.

V-day is Coming, Do You Know What to Buy Your Supernatural Sweetie?

Thursdays Bite

a paranormal blog

It’s time to stir things up and what better way to do that than with a mash-up. Paranormal style.

Valentine’s Day weekend is going paranormal on Bitten by Paranormal Romance. Drop by and they promise “We’re putting a different spin on “The Day” this year by taking a look at love in music and film.  It may not be your typical lovey-dovey, gooey, mushy…..hmmm, I’m not quite sure what to expect.  Stop on by, you’ll be glad you did!” That has my curiosity whetted and I’ll be dropping by to see what paranormal twist they can put on such a sticky sweet day.

Valentine’s day approaches and I’m sure there are some of you wondering what to get  for your supernatural man. Yes, that’s what I said, gifts for someone who already has special gifts himself.

For some creative ideas on what to buy for your vampire lover, your steady werewolf, even if you’re dating a zombie or a dragon look no further than the amazing authors at Harlequin. Gena Showalter and Jill Monroe have a new book out, Dating the Undead, and it’s chock full of useful tips. Get a taste HERE .

Thursdays Bite Book Review

this book review is usually the last thursday of the month, but due to the second writing campaign challenge (click here for a peek) I have undertaken to post my review today instead.

Today I am reviewing another author who I had the luck of meeting at Rom Con, Kimberly Frost. Kimberly’s third book in her Southern Witch Series is entitled Halfway Hexed and is another pleasurable read from a talented author. And it’s funny! Which is one reason why it earns four out of five omegas. ΩΩΩΩ

I still haven’t read book one in the series, Would-be Witch, but I fell in love with Kimberly’s writing and her terribly troubled character Tammy Jo Trask when I opened up her second novel, Barely Bewitched. Tammy Jo grew up in small town Texas thinking she was the only one in her family without any witch powers, but in the first book she discovers she is totally wrong. She has powers, but they do not work like anyone else’s. Magic backfires around poor Tammy Jo.

Although I did catch up quickly when I read Barely Bewitched without reading book one, and I have thoroughly enjoyed both of the books I’ve read, I would recommend reading Would-Be Witch first. But these books are such fun you are going to want to read all three. I won’t give away too much about the other two books (still waiting to read number one), but Tammy Jo’s adventures are hilarious and sexy. Kimberly keeps the reader guessing and engaged. I’ll share the opening lines from Halfway Hexed:

“The reason I don’t normally bother to plan my schedule is that something unexpected always seems to come up and throw it of. That Friday when I got kidnapped was a prime example.”

And she then proceeds to not tell you about the kidnapping. I was turning page after page waiting for the kidnapping, and when it happened, I was so unprepared! From the plague of frogs unleashed on the good Texas ladies who have it out for witches, to the complications of not wanting to fall in love with the one man who she can work magic around, you’ll find Halfway Hexed a fun fast paced read.

Leave a comment to be entered in today’s free book drawing for Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Night Play. To be announced on Monday, October 3rd.
