Paranormal Romance Book Trailers-Fall 2014

Thursdays Bite

a peek into the romantic world of the paranormal

Hello and welcome to Jessica Aspen Writes on Thursdays Bite, my paranormal romance blog day. Well, Thursday is typically my paranormal day, but I have a HUGE announcement to make. I’m switching my paranormal romance posts to Fridays and calling them Fantastical Fridays. Why? Well if you read Monday’s post on my Fall Resolutions you will know that I’m reorganizing my time around writing my romances. Thursdays have become so busy that not only am I not home to respond to comments on the blog, but getting the blog done eats into my Wednesdays, which should be my writing days. Hence the Thursday sabbatical and moving on to Fridays!

This will be the last Thursdays Bite for some time. When my schedule shifts around, then I’ll look at adding it back in again. Or, if I just feel like it, I may do one for fun! Stay tuned. Next week I’ll have my typical paranormal romance blog on Fridays. Fridays are fun, right? No, they’re fantastical!

Now on to what you’re really waiting for, the Fall 2014 Paranormal Romance Book Trailers!

We’re covering the gamut today with our romance trailers, from magic shops-to Egypt-to Regency England. We also have some very different styles of trailers. I love how each romance author brings her own style to their paranormal book trailers.

The first book trailer I have today is Shannon Grey’s Shoppe of Spells, book one in the Gatekeeper’s series. It’s a simple text trailer, but I love the way the words shatter. It’s also pretty short, so I think the length helps keep your attention long enough to get to the end.

Now we come to Magic of the Nile by Best Selling Author and USA today HEA Sci-Fi Enounters Columnist Veronica Scott
I love Egyptian music, that and the sparklies in the video make me want to dance. Not that my Egyptian dancing is all that!

Magic of the Nile is one of Veronica Scott’s Gods of Egypt series. If you love exotic romance and a little history with your reading, check it out!

And last, but not least, is Angela Quarles new time travel paranormal romance, Must Love Breeches. Angela not only has produced her own book trailer, but she recently had an article on how you can do the same. Check out Jami Gold’s Blog HERE and find out how you too can make your book into magic.

So that’s all folks! See you tomorrow on my first Fantastical Fridays. Since I showcased my paranormal romance book trailers today, you’ll be able to click the link to Karen’s Killer Fixin’s and see what a paranormal romance author cooks up in the kitchen. It’s not just witches brew and fairy cakes!

Do you have a paranormal book trailer for your book? Would you like to see it featured on Jessica Aspen Writes? Please send me the YouTube link, as well as your name and buy links for the book and I’ll try to get it posted in the next Fantastical Fridays Paranormal Book Trailers feature.

Paranormal Book Trailers, Take 2: Spring 2014

Thursdays Bite

a paranormal romance blog

Love paranormal romance trailers? So do I and here on Jessica Aspen Writes I try to feature them several times a year. This time I searched for fantasy romance book trailers and discovered romances featuring YA, fallen angels, and Greek myth. Here are my latest paranormal book trailer discoveries.

First we’ll start with the fantasy YA, Uncovering Cobbogoth, by Hannah L. Clark. Love all the eye images in this trailer, especially the motion sequence with the golden eye.

Now for a twist on angels and a little sweet urban fantasy book trailer. If you’re looking for love with the dark angels, here is Bespoken by Marie Michelle Coleman

And we’ll round it out with the Greek Myth Fantasy Series by Elizabeth Rose. Love the comic book theme! I haven’t seen anything like that before.

Which one is your favorite? What kind of trailers do you like? Do you look for them on YouTube?

Believe it or not it’s getting hard to find new paranormal romance book trailers. I’d love some help, so if you have some good ones, please post them in the comments.

a paranormal romance blog

prince by blood and bone by jessica aspenWe’re getting close! The second book in the Tales of the Black Court (my twisted fairy tale, fantasy romance series),  Prince by Blood and Bone, will be out soon. I’m hard at work on my paranormal Christmas romance, and I expect to celebrate Christmas in July with the release of Ghosts of Christmas Past. As usual, it doesn’t fit into one genre. It’s new adult, contemporary, Gothic romance. Can you say new adult, contemporary, Gothic ten times fast?

Fairytale Book Trailers and More…

Thursdays Bite

a different view of paranormal romance

Before I bring you more amazing book trailers, I want to remind anyone whose missed it that my Goodreads ten print book Giveaway of my fantasy, fairy tale romance with elves, witches, and evil queens, The Dark Huntsman, will be ending on October 22nd. So make sure you enter, if you haven’t already.

Time for some new trailers!

I had to add this one since not only is it a fairy tale romance, but in The Dark Huntsman, Trina is a Gypsy Witch, and this book has both Gypsies and Fairy Tale in the title.

And from the same author, another paranormal trailer. I love the simplicity of this one but then I had to ask, does it give you enough information about the story. Let me know in the comments what you think.

Now this one doesn’t even have any words. Tell me what you think. Can you tell if it’s NA, YA or adult romance just from the pictures?

That’s all folks.  I’ll be on Joan Leacott‘s site with a cool interview on Monday, so check it out!

What Should a Book Trailer Do?

Moonday Mania

book trailers and more

While looking for more hot paranormal romance book trailers, I realized that some of them needed more. More words, more description, more oomph! What do you put into a book trailer and why? What do you look for in a book trailer. Of course I’m looking for a new cool way to put the pictures together, possibly live action, definitely something that catches my interest. This first book trailer is live action, but instead of a full story that the author filmed, they put together clips. I thought this was a smart way to do a less-expensive live action.

Very cool, huh! But do you know what the story is about? Was it enough to only show you the pictures? Do you want to find out more enough to now look up a book description and then maybe go on to buy it? As an author I think I want not just cool clips, but I want the viewer to be intrigued by the story. Love the action here, but when you ask a reader to then have to find your book to find out what it’s about, I think the trailer misses it’s goal.

Here’s a more common way to do a book trailer with pictures and music only, but I left this one also wondering what the heck the story was really about.

See? The pictures were there, but the words seemed like they were brief awkward one-liners. This had a huge opportunity to use verbiage to pull you into an entire series and I think it too missed the mark. I do love the opening where the cityscape wavers as if it’s underwater. It definitely pulled me in, but the lack of a story line left me again feeling like the author missed an opportunity. Not just missed an opportunity, likely she paid someone for it.

The author provides the guidance for the book trailer. Unless you produce you trailer yourself, like Brinda Berry and Isis Rushdan did for the Kindred of the Fallen trailer, most authors hire someone else to do the actual production work. We provide the words, the ideas, and the theme that the artist uses to put together a trailer. It’s our responsibility to make sure that trailer packs as much punch as it’s able to into those few minutes and what’s the most important job a book trailer does? Hooks the reader.

Here’s one that did an excellent job hooking me, even though it really didn’t have the words that told me a story line. I loved the clips she used. Very professional and intriguing.

I still would have liked to see a few words about story lines, but in this case I think the quotes letting me know how fabulous the books are, worked!

What do you think a book trailer’s goal is? Is it to hook new readers? Entertain your current readers? Just make you more searchable on YouTube? Are book trailers worth the money? Do you think readers only want to see live action, or is a well put together series of clips enough? As a reader, do you look for trailers? What do you like to see?

It’s nearly time! Goldi and the Bear will be released at the end of this month and I’ll be on tour on July 22nd giving away copies, so don’t forget to come back on July 22nd for a list of blog hop stops!goldi and the bear release day blitz

Playing With Fire with Cait Masters

Thursdays Bite

We’re concluding our paranormal guest series with romance author Cait Masters. Not only does Cait have a unique concept for her book, she has a killer cover to go with it. And Cait is more than just one book. If you love Cursed, you’ll love finding out that she has several other books including a twisted fairy tale, The Twelve Dancing Zombie Killing Princesses. Score!

Playing With Fire

We’re often warned against it, aren’t we? Don’t play with fire! Sometimes in the figurative sense, but it can also apply in the real world.

If you watch this video of a real firedancer: you’ll see how beautiful and elegant a fire dance can be. And yes, dangerous! I held my breath a few times for this girl! Amazing, isn’t she? So confident and beautiful, glowing in the light of the flames she’s twirling around her so deftly.

Exactly like my heroine!  Melina Weaver is tired of her boring life. Yes, she loves her work as a genetic scientist, but it does nothing to fuel her wild side. So she learns this unusual type of performance art.

Where better to show it off than at Carnevale? After all, it’s not something one can simply do in a back yard. Well, maybe, but plenty of neighbors might become alarmed, lol.

And with good reason. Many components make up the art of fire dancing such as twirling combined with dance moves. Beginners learn using unlit equipment for safety reasons.

My heroine doesn’t take it as far as some of the fire dancers in real life. Some are more extreme and actually perform fire breathing or fire swallowing. Fire breathing is said to be the more dangerous of the two due to the toxicity of the fuel, which they must hold in their mouths before sending out a plume of flame, sometimes up to ten feet high. A spectacular sight, I’m sure!

My heroine surprised me with this unusual talent, and it made me love her all the more. Sure, she’s a geek girl, but she’s not boring! And it turns out, her fire dancing attracted a certain alpha male – also someone who’s not exactly as he seems.

Here’s a peek at Cursed:

cate masters cursedBruno diCesare lives alone by necessity, not choice. An experiment performed by Leonardo da Vinci, who believed having a dual DNA would grant a person immortality, used magic to render Bruno a chimera – the head of a lion, body of a dragon. The only time he can mingle with people is during Carnevale, ten glorious days of masked anonymity, frivolity and intimacy.

Melina Weaver learned fire dancing to enliven her dull existence. A scientist, her long hours at the lab leave no time for a social life. For ten days at Carnevale, she can pretend to be someone else. Someone sexy and daring, who lives on the edge.

Once she meets Bruno, her wish comes true, but everything goes terribly wrong. Beneath Bruno’s costume lurks an alpha male, but is he dangerous? Worse, can she return to an employer who sells her research to the military to make an army of efficient killers? Her only hope may lie with the man she’s just met and never seen.

Hot New Trailers for Spring!

Thursdays Bite

a paranormal blog

Today is trailer day, WOOT! Next Thursday I’ll have Rhapsody author, Sharon Clare, on the blog, so check back on the 14th and see what Sharon has to say!

I thought Karin Shah came up with a very cool concept with a Chimera shifter, part lion, part dragon. Here’s In Like a Lion:

And for a very unusal live action, Tina Folsom‘s trailer for her Scanguards Vampire Series is hot, hot, hot!

And just one more to round out to the magical number three. Shadow of Time by Jen Minkman. An interesting mix of live action shots and stills. Love the eyes in here.

What do you love about trailers? What do you wish you could see? Do you ever look for them on Youtube?

I’m always looking for new paranormal romance trailers, so leave a link here in the comments if you have a cool one and I’ll check it out!

Three Hot Paranormal Romance Authors and Three Hot Trailers

Thursday’s Bite

a paranormal blog for romance lovers

With the success of the release of my book trailer for Snow and the Seventh Wolf (click HERE if you missed it) I thought I’d share some book trailers from my paranormal romance author friends.

Number one is a book trailer that I was first introduced to a year ago by Love of Her Lives author Sharon Clare. I love the way Sharon used second life to create her book trailer. Not only is it something that I had never seen done before, it also made it easy for her to incorporate her supernatural character, Finn, a trouble causing elf.

Love of Her Lives is now available in paperback and her novella, Rhapsody, was just released in December, 2012. Sharon wrote one of the best posts I’ve had on my blog about women and their search for, um… “personal pleasure”. Check it out HERE. And to read my review of Love of Her Lives on Goodreads, click HERE. Sharon will be my guest on March 7th, so check back for some more Sharon Clare.

If you liked Snow and the Seventh Wolf’s trailer, it was created by Lex Valentine of Winterheart Designs. Lex also has created a trailer for a friend of mine, and fellow Passion in Print author, Lizzie T. Leaf. Lizzie’s book Beyond Magic, the first in her Magical Love series has Lizzie’s trademark sense of humor as well as being a fantastic paranormal love story.

You can find the second book in the Magical Love series, Emerging Magic, HERE. Like Sharon’s books Lizzie’s Magical Love series has a supernatural taking a hand in the romance, but Lizzie’s Cailleach is a little more reluctant than Sharon’s Finn.

Last, but of course not least, is romance author and fellow WRITING GAIM member, Isis Rushdan. Her brand new romance from Samhain, Kindred of the Fallen has one of the most amazing covers I’ve seen in a long time and there is no doubt a paranormal love story to match. Brinda Berry helped Isis put together this book trailer and I think they did a phenomenal job.

I have to include the warning that comes with the book: Warning: Contains a headstrong, soul-reading tattoo artist, a sexy alpha hero who knows how to get what he wants, adrenaline-packed action, and explosive sex that literally shatters bulletproof glass.

Whew! Definitely ready to open those pages!

Do you love book trailers? Have you read any of these authors? If you’ve missed out on any of my book trailer posts then click HERE and HERE and HERE  for some additional trailers.
