Taste of Wanted…

Whimsical Wednesday

He’s a bitter man with a taste for revenge—and she’s the perfect means to get it.
She’s a princess who’s lost her throne and is looking for answers…
All Grim wants is to resurrect the past, but to do so he must get a princess to spin straw into gold. When the perfect princess Ana falls into his hands he’ll sacrifice anything to get his revenge—even true love…
Ana was happy with her party princess life, until her stepsister turned out to be Cinderella. Now, Ana doesn’t know who she is. When she’s kidnapped by a dark stranger demanding her to be more than just arm candy, she has to step up or be lost forever under his spell…

“You’d do best to cooperate. Besides, it will be easy for you.”

She glanced down at him. “What will be easy for me?”

“Why, spinning that into gold.” He pointed to the corner where the musty straw now shone a bright fresh yellow. “When I’ve got what I need, Princess, you’ll be free to face your fate.”

Ana stared at the pile of straw next to the brand-new spinning wheel. Her mouth dried to sand, her fake confidence fleeing. “Wha…” She swallowed and tried again. “What makes you think I can do anything of the sort?”

“Solanum told me I’d find the right princess in that garden, and there you were, made-to-order turning a tree into gold.” His face eased into a smile and Ana realized with a horrified sense of irony that if she’d met him at the ball and he’d smiled like that at her, she’d have thought he was truly a handsome man. “By Brigit’s hand, he was right.”

He laughed, the musical sound lifting into the rafters and sending ice cold chills down her spine.

Ana went upstairs without another word. Facing the freshly made bed across the room, she shook, her breath coming in short painful gasps.

She couldn’t do this. Not only had she never spun a single thread in her life, but all her gold, every single piece of it, turned back into dross within twenty-four hours. She’d be stuck here forever trying to fulfill this madman’s needs.

Or worse, he’d figure out she was a phony. Then what would he do?

He couldn’t afford to return her to the castle—the guards would kill him on sight. That meant that sooner or later, he’d have to silence her—whether or not she fulfilled his request. And since she couldn’t do it, that meant her death was coming faster than she’d ever planned for. Maybe even tomorrow.
