a blog for paranormal romance lovers
Okay, normally I fast forward past the commercials like everyone else, but when I saw this Lexus F commercial I definitely tuned in to the hot guys selling sexy cars. And then I did a double take and re-wound it, so I could make sure I heard what I thought I heard.
And I did.
This is mainstream automobile advertising and they have definitely been reading Gena Showalter‘s paranormal romance Lords of the Underworld series. Just watch. And listen—that’s the important part. Ignore the super hot men or you’ll have to rewind and rewatch.
Did you manage to ignore the sexy men and hear it?
“F, provokes Lust.
It unleashes, Wrath.
It incites Envy.
And it elicits Pride.”
This commercial is poised to capture paranormal romance readers. Dark streets, dangerous alley’s, wet sexy kisses. It’s got it all. and with every new guy (and car) there is the mention of an evil. If you’ve read Gena Showalter, the mention of deadly sins mixed up with hot sexy guys brings to mind her series of paranormal romances. Definitely.
“Long ago, twelve immortals warriors – each more dangerously seductive than the last — stole and opened Pandora’s box, unleashing the evil from within. Now they carry that evil within themselves. Violence, Pain, Death, Disease, Disaster, Misery, Doubt, Promiscuity, Defeat, Lies, Secrets, and Wrath. When a powerful enemy returns, they will travel the world in search of a sacred relic of the gods – one that threatens to destroy them all.” https://www.goodreads.com/series/46385-lords-of-the-underworld
There is no doubt in my mind that the marketing masterminds at Lexus read paranormal romance. Okay, some of the names are different, but not much. Yeah, they used the seven deadly sins, instead of Gena’s Violence, Pain, and Death…but the parallels are obvious. This commercial is targeted to women. A few sexy women in there, but really, it’s all about the guys.
Had you seen the commercial before? Have you read Gena Showalter? What about JR Ward? I also was reminded of her series as well, but The Lords of the Underworld just fit better. What do you think? Are the marketing masterminds at Lexus secret romance fans?
